About Ashley E. Underell
This well written suspenseful tale does all that a book should do. It takes
the reader through a tale with expression and color. It is a story of Kathy
Nicolo, a woman who has been on the down and out. Kathy is a recovering drug
addict, a lonely woman that cleans homes for a living. Her dead father left
her a home and that is all that Kathy has after her husband Nick leaves her,
and her home is taken through a bureaucratic mistake. Colonel Behrani
works two jobs and leads his family to believe that he is equally as
successful as he was when they lived in Iran. Once a very powerful and
wealthy man finds himself picking up garbage on the side of a freeway, and
working at a convenience store, unable to assemble the American dream.
Lester Burdon married, and in law enforcement comes to love Kathy Nicolo
through dim circumstances and begins to leave his wife and children while
fighting to help Kathy keep her home that has so mistakenly taken from her.
Through suspense and rich character depiction, the characters collide in all
their sadness, stubbornness, sicknesses, and desires, and end up making
choices that will change all of their lives forever. It is quite a
compelling read, as the reader finds that she is rooting for all of the
characters, as they are all just trying to make their way in a crazy world.
Each character is loveable and memorable, and deeply sad.
This is a page- turner, and definitely a stride in storytelling. Never have
I read a book that I loved and at the same time despised because it was so
brutally honest and horrifying.
