About Sarita Mehra
While most people may not have read A.A. Milne's "House at Pooh Corner"
lately, when you pick up "The Tao of Pooh" you'll find it riddled with
tidbits and references that aim to make the understanding of Taoism a simple
journey. Don't let this turn you off, because "while Eeyore frets, and
Piglet hesitates, and Rabbit calculates, and Owl pontificates, Pooh just
is."
Benjamin Hoff jumps right in and with the help of Poohbear himself,
illustrates the many aspects of The Tao Te Ching and Taoism through Pooh and
his friends in the Hundred Acre Woods. He adopts a Milne-like approach in
his writing as he converses with Pooh, in turn, teaching him (and us) about
Taoism. Excerpts from "The House At Pooh Corner" and "Winnie-the-Pooh" are
scattered throughout and successfully demonstrate that Taoism is closer to
the likes of Pooh than to Owl, Eeyore or even Tigger
Unlike most books on the subject, Hoff doesn't bore his readers; in fact,
the book reads with such ease, you would think you might have missed the
philosophical side of the subject. Instead, you've become enlightened on
Taoism without even realizing it!
"The Tao of Pooh" is a masterfully written book that I recommend as some
light yet informative reading; perfect for that plane trip or vacation on
the beach.
